The "2 and a half lines" construction of the MENTOR 7 combines performance and riding comfort in a unique way. Philipp Medicus, head of research and development at NOVA, explains: “The design difference between the MENTOR 6 and the MENTOR 7 is more significant than between the 2 and the 6. Thanks to a new approach, the performances have been considerably increased, without increasing the demands on the pilot. The result is a real cross wing that allows you to fly for a long time with complete peace of mind and less fatigue.

Designed for cross country.

The MENTOR 7 was designed for distance flying. Fully accelerated, it solidly cuts through turbulent air masses, and the C pitch control effectively smooths out angle of attack variations. The solidity of the wing and the feeling that results from it allows the pilot to stay focused on his tactical decisions during long flights. In the event of a collapse, the MENTOR 7 reacts docilely, even at maximum speed. All NOVA test pilots confirm that this wing, with its moderate aspect ratio of 5.5, is very pleasant to fly and has a higher top speed than the MENTOR 6. The ideal conditions for new distance records…

Pitch control.

For maximum ergonomics, the MENTOR 7 C risers are equipped with height-adjustable bars (HAC Handles). These handles make it possible to control the incidence of the wing in accelerated flight, which was previously reserved for "2 lines" such as the XENON. Turbulence is easily compensated for and accelerated transitions are much more efficient. Even without experience of C piloting, it is very easy to approach this technique of flight in complete relaxation with the MENTOR 7 and to benefit from a real advantage in terms of performance. Note: the operation of the C control is explained in the FAQ below.

Meticulous construction.

Beyond the 2.5-line concept, the MENTOR 7 is distinguished by a complex internal design: 66 cells and additional rods in the rear part of the wing. These design features play a vital role in the exceptional performance of the sail. This ends the simple folding philosophy in favor of performance. It is advisable to protect the rods at the trailing edge. The MENTOR 7 Light is therefore delivered with an inflatable cushion (“Pack Roll”), and must be folded around it or rolled up around the harness, if possible in our Concertina Bag Light.

The risers in detail.

HAC Handles are the standout feature of the new MENTOR 7 Speedbrake Riser 2.0 risers. Good to know for handling on the ground: you can unhook the MENTOR 7 very effectively using the C lines. As there is no C3 line, asymmetric corrections with the rears do not work very well. For lateral corrections, we therefore recommend using the brake. Note: For clarity when prepping on the ground, a magnet holds the A and B3 risers together. For optimal inflation, we recommend separating these two magnetic risers and holding only the line of A's.
